Nestled in the banks of the Red River in Adams, TN is the Red River campground/canoe center. It has been home for 2 years now to the HEADJAMZ music festival. This year the Headliners were the Emmitt-Nershi Band, Ivan Neville, and Cornmeal. I've been to my share of festivals and this was..........

This was the coolest festival I have ever been to.  The campground is such a beautiful setting, and in fact this is where I go canoeing, I had been on the lower stretch just a few weeks before.  The vibe was laid back and the opening acts were very good, getting the crowd in the groove for the headliners.

The Emmitt-Nershi Band showed their stuff.  Drew Emmitt and Bill Nershi I had seen before and they were every bit as good as I remembered.  Andy Thorn was excellent on banjo, and living in Nashville I've seen the best, he ranks up there with them. Tyler Grant was so good on bass, I wish he could have showed off his flatpicking style though.

I missed Saturday/Ivan Neville but Sunday night with Cornmeal was such a treat. I had heard so much about this band and I was not disapointed. The so talented and beautiful Ali Kral burning up the fiddle and singing her heart out, Kris Nowak's awesome guitar picking and vocals, Wavy Dave Burlingame was another banjo virtuoso, and Chris Gangi on bass with J.P. Nowack on drums driving the beat completed this band to perfection. The biggest problem I had photograping was the way the music made me dance so much, it was so infectstous.

So check out these great bands and make plans to come to HEADJAMZ next year. Or just go to the campground for a great canoe float and a relaxing stay.
