The "Lockn' Fest", which featured the who's who of the jam band scene last year, is returning to Arrington Virginia for its second anniversary. With last year's lineup featuring Gov't Mule, String Cheese, Widespread Panic and Further each performing full sets for multiple nights we thought it wouldn't get any better, but it seems the CID Entertainment wants to up the ante. This year's lockn' fest will feature many of the same artists like the String Cheese Incident, Widespread Panic featuring Steve Winwood this year, Willie Nelson, Ratdog, Phil & Friends as well as this year's only appearance of Furthur. So fans of the Grateful Dead will get three nights of Dead related music with the highlight being Saturday night where Ratdog, Phil & Friends and Furthur will play approximately 6 - 8 hours back to back! So pack your bags and get yourself to Lockn' for the best fest of the year.
We recommend going for the VIP experience. The camping overlooks the main stages and the audio is nearly perfect right at your tent. You'll get a couple meals out of it, but most importantly you'll have a lounge where you can relax while hearing the all the music clearly. As well you'll get some pretty choice viewing spots from which to watch the show.
The festival promoters promise to have worked the kinks out of what went wrong last year. Most of the kinks had to do with day 1 admissions. They just weren't prepared to handle the massive number of people who showed up early for the show. As far as first year festivals go we gave it a 4 out of 5 star rating. The musical acts were top notch, the stage was perfectly placed in an acoustically perfect area with a stage setup that sounded perfect! The bands kept coming like clock work shuffling between the two stages.
