Dead & CO. Announce Exotic Mexico Getaway
Date: Thursday, July 27 @ 18:32:08 EDT
Topic: Music

With all the Mexican getaways scheduled every year it seems there's always one that we pick as our top of the top, this year it's "Dead and Company's Playin In The Sand."  Last year we thought Muertos Con Queso would be hard to top...just leave it to Billy k to top it!

Dead and Company include the Rhythm Devils Mickey Hart and Billy Kreutzmann, Bob Weir on Rhythm Guitar and Jeff Chimenti on Keys, Oteil Burbridge on Bass and of course wonderboy John Mayer on Guitar.

Playin in the Sand is scheduled for 3 nights of shows over a 4 night period.  Packages range from a respectable $3,710/couple to upwards of $10,000 per couple if you want all the bells and whistles and we know some of you do.  Spread out over 5 mega hotels in the Yukatan peninusula this event promises to deliver a lot of fun in the sun for well over 5,000 people.  They do offer payment plans, but buyer beware:  make sure you have money to pay all the bills or they will ruthlessly take your money and say hasta la vista babee.  Just our advice to all the purps out there.  We do have first hand knowlege and proof from last year's Muertos Con Queso of this happening.  Just don't over commit your money if you can't afford it.

As we have done a few of these you'll want to know that you take a "free shuttle" from the airport to your hotel.  It is done right and they will hold your hand through the process of getting tucked in to your room.

Playing in the Sand is an all-inclusive concert vacation in one of the most beautiful parts of the world, the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. You’ll experience three Dead & Company concerts on the beach, under the stars, just steps from the Caribbean Sea.The three nightly concerts take place at the Barceló Maya Beach resort, which sits on a mile-long stretch of white sandy beach with breathtaking landscapes and pools scattered throughout the property. You may reserve a room at the Barceló, or choose to stay at one of our other carefully selected hotels. Each resort features a variety of restaurants, bars and daily activities, all included in your vacation package. Spend your days lounging by the pool and beach, soaking up the sun, or exploring the local culture through exciting off-site adventures. Spend your nights dancing blissfully on the beach with the stars above, the wind in your hair and your toes in the sand.Guests staying at the Barceló Maya will walk out of their rooms and take a short stroll to the beach to see the show each night. If you are staying at one of our other properties, a shuttle will deliver you to the concert area and bring you back to your resort after the show.
Grateful Dead members Mickey HartBill Kreutzmann and Bob Weir joined forces with singer/guitarist John Mayer to form the band Dead & Company, along with Allman Brothers’ bassist Oteil Burbridge and Fare Thee Well and RatDog keyboardist Jeff Chimenti. Their critically acclaimed performances draw from the Dead’s historic catalog of songs. In October of 2015 the band took to the stage for their inaugural nationwide tour, kicking off with three sold-out concerts at the legendary Madison Square Garden and ending the year with two sold-out performances at the “Fabulous” Forum, and according to Billboard, the concerts are “magical.”Following the tremendous success of the band’s 2015 tour, Dead & Company announced their highly-anticipated 2016 tour which included headlining Bonnaroo, two nights at Citi Field in New York, a two show Independence Day weekend celebration at Folsom Field in Boulder and two nights at the famous Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, Wisconsin, with the tour concluding with two shows at Boston’s iconic Fenway.Dead & Company made their late night debut on Thursday, February 18, 2016 on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and later that year appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live!Their 2017 summer tour included stops at iconic venues such as Fenway Park, Folsom Field, Citi Field, The Hollywood Bowl, and Wrigley Field. Dead & Company is “potent enough to enrapture the faithful and convert the skeptical” (Boston Globe). The group draws largely from the Dead’s vast catalog of songs, and according to Relix, they “prove that the Grateful Dead’s music is built to last.”Fans and music critics alike hailed the tour:“Dead & Company is the most important music story of 2016 and maybe beyond.” – The Huffington Post“… Dead & Company cast their rainbow across CU’s sandstoned Folsom Field Sunday, capping a historic two-night stand with a near flawless display.” – Denver Post“… the concerts are magical.” – Billboard“With visibly and audibly fresh energy provided by newcomers John Mayer and Oteil Burbridge, the new model Dead held true to the highly improvised, thrill-ride style Deadheads hold so dear.” – Oakland Press“OK, I’ll buy it: Dead & Company are for real.” – JamBase“The Grateful Dead’s catalog is, to a large extent, rocket fuel for guitar pyrotechnics Mayer’s virtuoso skills have re-ignited the flame and fans have seemingly welcomed him as one of their own.” – Gothamist
